Bamboo Kamakura is an organization that promotes the many ways bamboo can be used for sustainable living. This weekend, we used bamboo harvested from hills nearby to make real bamboo Nagashi-Somen (noodle rapids).
We made "gutters" by splitting bamboo and ran water through it. Then, noodles are allowed to flow down the rapids, delivering fresh, cold noodles to everyone. We even made our own noodle cups from freshly cut bamboo.
It was quite a feat of engineering! What a great day to spend a summer afternoon!
